Additionally, -Orton Gillingham focuses on using a language-based, multi-sensory, and sequential approach to reading instruction that develops a balanced approach to reading instruction through direct teaching. This phonics-based program teaches the basics of word formation before the words themselves to help build fluent decoding and recall for reading and spelling words.
